The Stamford Primary School (SPS) Science Programme aims to develop inquiring learners equipped with Science process skills and knowledge.
We believe that children are curious and want to explore the things around them. SPS leverages on this and seeks to fuel this spirit of curiosity. The end goal is to develop pupils who enjoy Science and value Science as an important tool in helping them explore their natural and physical world.
SPS teachers are the leaders of inquiry in the Science classroom. Our Science teachers impart the excitement and value of Science to their pupils. They are facilitators and role models of the inquiry process in the classrooms. They create a learning environment that will encourage and challenge pupils to develop their sense of inquiry. Teaching and learning approaches centre around the pupil as an inquirer.
Inquiry-based Science Classroom
The school adopts inquiry-based science instruction to engage our pupils in Science learning and arouses pupils' natural curiosity about the world around them while developing science process skills.
To have rich experiential learning, all P3- P6 pupils are given the opportunity to carry out hands-on activities in the Science room to collaborate, communicate and discover science concepts.

The school conducts outdoor learning for the pupils. Outdoors and the wider community provide rich learning environments. Pupils learn and play in real settings and apply skills to make connections across subject areas to see the relevance of Science. Our outdoor learning consists of the following programmes:
P3 – Hydroponics & Lesson at Science Centre
P4 - Sprout a seed & Lesson at Science Centre
P5 - Learning trail in our school garden & Lesson at the Science Centre
P6 – Lesson at the Science Centre

Talent Development Programme
The school develops a 4 year high ability programme to develop our high ability learners' creative thinking skills and research skills progressively. Our high ability curriculum consists of the following:

- School recycling programme
In every class, there are two Environment Ambassadors. These pupils help to lead their classmates in designing the recycling corner in their classroom. Every year, attractive prizes are given out to the classes with the most creative designs for their paper and plastic recycling bins. The aim of this competition is to increase awareness about recycling as well as to promote creativity in the use of recyclables to construct the bins. Throughout the year, the ambassadors also help to maintain the bins by emptying them into the school’s larger recycling bins regularly.

- Healthy and clean plate campaign

Since 2016, we started a healthy and clean plate campaign to emphasize the importance of eating healthily as well as reducing food waste. Our ambassadors would remind pupils to order only what they need and to finish their food so as to prevent unnecessary wastage. Pupils also posed for creative photographs or gifs with their empty plates at the end of their meal during Youth for the Environment week to participate in an awareness-raising competition (Love Your Food Campaign). The following are some of our pupils eagerly posing with their plates.
World Water Day
To increase awareness of water as a precious resource and the need to conserve water, a range of activities are organised yearly on World Water Day. Performers have been invited to engage pupils through drama and a water rationing exercise was conducted in 2016 to reinforce the importance of conserving water. Posters with water conservation messages that were coloured by lower primary pupils have also been put up in prominent locations around school.

Youth for the Environment Day (YED) & Stamford Science Day
To commemorate YED and Stamford Science Day every year, interesting Science and Environment games and quiz booths are hosted by the Science and Environment Ambassadors (SEAs), along with various CCA groups such as the Environment Club and the Art Club. Beyond raising awareness on different environmental messages, these booths also serve as a platform for our pupils to develop leadership and organisational skills.

Science Ambassadors Programme
The school also provides training and platforms for our Science ambassadors to develop organization skills and promote the passion of learning Science. They are given opportunities to organise Science & Environment Day programmes to promote the love of learning Science and care for our Environment.
Applied Learning Programme - Caring for the Commnunity through Interdisplinary Learning @ Stamford (C2IL@stamford)
For this year, we have embarked on the ALP. The ALP programme emphasizes students learning through making connections. The designs of our Interdisciplinary ALP draws on the various curricular and co-curricular subjects' content areas. Through a specific thematic area or a multi-faceted issue, students are guided to draw connections between subject knowledge and issues through activities like interdisciplinary project work and learning journeys.
Our ALP seeks to enable our students to:
- Understand how knowledge from different disciplines can be integrated and used to make lives of others better,
- Apply interdisciplinary knowledge to design solutions to improve the lives of others and
- Develop 21st century competencies, interests and learning dispositions which will help them better serve the community in the future.
